The story behind
Originally, the Latin words ex libris were applied to books in libraries followed by their owner's name. By extension, the term became synonymous with the vignette on which names and symbols of belonging were engraved. At the center of this scarf designed by Hugo Grygkar in 1946, Hermès' Ex-Libris combines the caduceus of the god Hermes and the waiting groom inspired by Alfred de Dreux's design. This emblem is elegantly surrounded by carriages without their horses in a subtle tribute to the saddle- and harness-maker and the origins of the Maison.
