THE CREATION
With Un Jardin sous la Mer eau de toilette, Hermès perfumer Christine Nagel ventures out into the beyond with an invitation to discover a surprising garden. An escape to the faraway Polynesian island of Taha'a: an unspoiled land where mountains and reefs, plants and corals converse in perfect harmony.
THE OLFACTORY NOTES
Un Jardin sous la Mer is a floral and musky eau de toilette that combines a radiant tiare flower with the enveloping character of the tamanu nut and mineral notes that evoke the coral reef.
THE OBJECT
Designed by Fred Rawyler, the bottle is inspired by the lines of horse-drawn carriage lanterns. Its graduated shades of blue reflect the azure sky and the crystalline waters of the lagoon around Taha'a. The box features watercolor illustrations by artist Aino-Maija Metsola, depicting the vibrant life and colors of the coral reef.
THE HERMÈS DETAIL
For each Parfum-Jardin, the House invites an artist to illustrate the box, giving them carte blanche to create a poetic expression of the garden through drawing.
"Drawing is everything at Hermès, and everything starts with a drawing", comments Pierre-Alexis Dumas, artistic director at Hermès.
THE ETHICS
The 100 ml, 50 ml and 30 ml bottles of Un Jardin sous la Mer eau de toilette can be replenished using the 200 ml refill (sold separately).

The story behind
“Just a few steps out from the shore, I discovered a whole new world – a veritable underwater garden shimmering with life and filled with dazzling colours, where dancing coral called to mind tiare flowers in the wind.”
