The story behind
Renowned animal painter and portrait artist Xavier de Poret (1894-1975) was famous for his hunting scenes and studies of horses and birds. On this scarf, first produced in 1956, calm and pensive Basset Hounds are drawn in different postures. A hunting dog trained to bring back game, the Basset Hound is characterized by its intelligence and loyalty. The artist has affectionately sketched his silky-coated companions against a plain background to highlight their expressive gaze.
